I recall an era where people valued winning the Scudetto more than the CL.
Actually even in 2010 that was the case and some of us were expecting Inter to compete for both during those years and were called nuts for it

I can only speak about myself and i wasn't really involved in Inter communities back then but i can't imagine how anyone would prioritize Scudetto over CL in 2010. We were coming from 4 consecutive scudetti and while it would be cool to win 5th in a row CL was really special. I was always in favor of going all in for CL in that season even at the cost of losing Scudetto.

It's an insane argument. The money we make for CL progress this season, unless we go on to win it, is far outstripped by the money we make by actually being in the CL next season. Plus it's not as simple as just deciding where to invest your efforts - the arrogance of some people to think we can just routinely best Benfica, then the winner of Milan Vs Napolinis crazy. Making sure we are in the CL at all next season is a more easy to control fate, and worth far more to the club than just making the semis (for arguments sake) this time.
Of course it is, but the path is as clear as it can ever be under the current Suning administration.

Making it to CL next season via Serie A doesn't require an Atlantean deed. It should be a given.
Win all home games and don't mess up more than half your away games and it's done. That should even be the minimum.

But our chances at silverware this year are the Coppa Italia and the Champions League.

And honestly it feels easier to reach CL final than Coppa Italia final given how bad we play vs Juventus this season.

There was a thread back in 2008 or 2009 with a poll. Will try to find it.

Its easy to say "it should be a given", but thats the point. We're assuming we make it - its actually *critical* that we make it, because if we dont, we'll drop out of the CL revenues, we'll have to sell a lot more than we expect in the summer, and we're probably 3 years & new owners away from makingt he CL again if we dont make it.

RE 2010, I dont think anyone really believed we could win the CL until at least after the Chelsea game, and practically, until after we beat Barca 3-1. Given the scale of change and investment, and the relative disappointing season before, securing the league was a critical 'must achieve', whereas (as had been the case with Inter for basically a decade), any significant progress in the CL was a nice to have. Admittedly, of course, that was the point of bringing Mourinho in, but its still insane to *assume* progress.

I mean, no one will take a CL qf or sf loss, or even final loss, if we fail to secure qualification for next edition. Don't think that's the discussion here.
But there's a historic chance of reaching another CL final. Worse teams have won it or reached it.

We see that Napoli is in the same round as us, we even expect them to reach the semis I suppose (although they choke vs teams from Milano) and they're cruising in the league. You can do both. Not every year, which is why this year we can afford to prioritise on CL. It's 2 + 2 games.

Serie A has 11 more games out of which 7 or 8 are winnable under normal circumstances. We can still choke, not surprising for this season, but if I were the management I know where my focus lies.

The other teams around us do not have 11 winnable games. They do not have 5 winnable games. And two of them face us as well.

And the biggest thing with Serie A vs CL is the team. Team will focus to CL, they want the best players to play in CL matches. Like come on, how do you think the team would react if Inzaghi started to rotate in CL because he needs to secure top4 in Serie A? Players have themselves talked how there has been a lack of focus in Serie A while in the big matches (like CL) it has been better. There is not a scenario where it would be possible to make players focus more on Serie A than CL. CL is the competition every player wants to take part in, that's the ultimate competition (in addition to the World Cup) for like all the players playing in Europe.

If anything, players will revolt if Inzaghi starts to prioritize some shitty Salerno or Empoli away matches to matches in CL, SPECIALLY if it's coming from the management.

Like the logic would be, players would agree to fight for top4 so that they can play CL next season too so that the club would get more money next season instead of playing with full force in CL now, in knockout games to try to win that competition now. There is no logic in this.

I think some people fail to understand that with present owner, Inter's main target is to stay afloat and participating in CL is the only way to do it. Unfortunately with Inzaghi, there is a serious chance to miss it, and if the team's results do not improve in next 2-3 fixtures a change should be considered immediately.

Conte did it again! :awyeah:

Conte had also left Inter by mutual consent with one year of his contract still to run, just days after winning the Serie A title, and received a large sum in compensation.
Rage quit + salary compensation pocketed!

The contract was terminated by mutual consent this evening, with reports on Sky Sport Italia suggesting the coach received some of the outstanding salary, but not the full amount.
Conte is now officially THE PIMP! Congratulations for owning the owners

Anyone knows how he can instantly get out of contracts while being compensated? 💰 Seems like a very productive business model.

I appreciate Conte a lot, but he isn't the right man for this Inter. He'll lose his mind again and we'll lose money again.

Unpopular opinion because most people hate his style but the right man for this Inter is Cholo. He's exactly the type of manager our chokers need. Sadly he isn't a realistic option.

Conte is never going to return to Inter. There’s no way he’d be able to work with that steaming pile of garbage that we call our squad (because he’s a con artist). He'll never agree to work with a budget of 0€ and we can’t afford his wage demands anyway.

Actually with Allegri staying at Jube, Inter is his most probable option. Roma are even worst than us, and I don't see him at Milan with their squad + there is big chance to lose Leao too.
