We need to take some things into consideration:

1) The club is in dire financial situation and it needs to make at least 80m from sales. If we don't want to dismantle the team there are only 3 players who could guarantee such a fee. Lukaku, Lautaro and Hakimi.

2) Lukaku is 28. Conte could get the best out of him but he isn't around anymore. We don't know how he's gonna be under Inzaghi.

3) It would be easier to replace Lukaku than Hakimi, who is a lot younger and has a very high ceiling.

I think Conte is overrated and if he was more reasonable he would have stayed at the club.

But I understand why he left. He took a position against the owners -Zhang. They told him the squad you helped build and develop will now be auctioned to the highest bidder and lesser players will be brought in. They probably also told him that current squad depth will also be trimmed.

He faced the reality that he will be judged by outsiders the same way with less.

Hey guys, seems that Conte IS just another mercenary interested in his own career, seeing how he has bailed out.

OK, he probably won`t be favorites on paper any more and has no idea how to qualify past the group stages of UCL. But why the golden handshake?

This media circus is unnecessary. Conte has 1 year left on his contract and isn't going to walk on making 12 million euros. We're also not going to pay him a significant sum to fuck off as we want to keep him.
