to me recoba stands for a lot of the failures of the moratti era, but man, seeing him back at inter brings back the nostalgia. amazing player and he became a true interista in his later years. his reaction when he scored his last goal vs milan in the trofeo tim was so sad to see. you could see the disappointment and regret in chino's eyes to not have given more to this shirt.

It just looks like the reaction of a man scoring in the Trofeo TIM to me.

Recoba, the reason it all started for me, how I became a functional human with a black heart and blue arteries! (too much? fuck it I don't care!)
He really truly was a joy to watch (and play with on PES), has there ever existed a better more accurate left foot?! I want to write so much about him but I'm positive more fitting and deserving FIF members have already done so. I highly doubt seeing a talented genius (yet inconsistent) like him.

Nah. I agree with bandiera, he looked kinda defeated.

Former Inter attacker Recoba hangs up his boots

Having spent and entertaining 10 years at the San Siro, ‘El Chino’ has decided to call time on his career at the age of 40.

One of the most unpredictable players of the last 20 years, Alvaro Recoba, has announced that he will retire from football at the end of this month.

A unique talent, the Uruguayan playmaker scored 72 goals in his 248 appearances for the Nerazzurri, picking up a UEFA Cup and two Serie A titles along the way, although a lack of desire to train meant that he arguably never truly fulfilled his enormous potential.

Thursday, March 31 will see the 40-year-old say goodbye to football, with big international stars coming to Montevideo to bid ‘El Chino’ farewell, including former Nerazzuri teammate Christian Vieri, who was unlikely to turn down the opportunity to party with the man to whom he owes at least 50 of his goals for Inter.

Recoba was signed for the Nerazzurri when then Biscione President Massimo Moratti saw a videotape of the young attacker scoring a Maradona-esque goal for Club Nacional de Montevideo.

With that strike, he demonstrated an impressive combination of speed, strength and excellent technique by taking the ball around the halfway line and gliding past defenders with ease on his way to turning the ball past the opposition keeper.

That same summer, the club made the marquee signing of Ronaldo and the Uruguayan made his debut for the Nerazzurri during Inter’s pre-season friendly with Bologna in 1997, coming on for the Brazilian striker and making an immediate impression on the Inter faithful.

“80,000 came to see Ronaldo Luiz Nazario da Lima,” said the radio broadcaster on RTL 102.5. “But instead they have discovered Alvaro ‘El Chino’ Recoba with his left foot of dynamite.”

Having played his final game for Inter in 2007, Recoba spent a year with Torino before making his way back to Club Nacional via Greek side Panionios and first club Danubio, picking up 155 career goals for club and country along the way.

Recoba officially retires
By Football Italia staff

Former Inter star Alvaro Recoba will officially retire tonight, after a tribute match in Montevideo.

The Uruguayan attacking midfielder hasn’t played since 2015, but had not officially announced his retirement until now.

The 40-year-old will officially hang up his boots after a friendly match tonight, with former Nerazzurri teammates Francesco Toldo and Javier Zanetti in attendance.

El Chino was President Massimo Moratti’s favourite player during his time at San Siro, and became famous for his spectacular goals.

Recoba was a left-footed playmaker, well-known for his prowess from free-kicks, and was briefly the highest-paid player in the world.

After 175 appearances for the Beneamata and 54 goals, Recoba had a brief spell at Torino before returning to his native Uruguay with Danubio and then Nacional.

He won two Scudetti with Inter [the first as part of the Calciopoli scandal], as well as two Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup.
