Interesting. So Oaktree is overriding Marotta's (or Ausilio's) primary target.

Trying to do the math here. Hermoso would cost us 7M gross in wages per season.

Cabal would cost 2M gross in wages per season plus 2M in amortization, ignoring any plusvalenza.

So Cabal is saving about 3M per season roughly? @pier

This is a pretty terrible sign of things to come if Oaktree is vetoing what look like completely reasonable deals. These kinds of free transfers have been keeping us afloat, and a 29-year-old who's won a league title before and played 26 CL games seems like a fantastic signing at the reported terms. As a I wrote yesterday in a different thread, I understand Oaktree never actually wanted to own the club, but if they're putting their trust in Marotta...fucking trust him.

I doubt Oaktree knows anything about football, better not intervene. Do they even know there is no "soccer" in the outside world?

29yo is not old in this sport. But their prime ffs.

Cabal would earn closer to 1m than 1.5m and Hermoso would demand some good sign on + agent fees.

Anyway, this is not about age nor cost. If we rated Hermoso, we would have signed him February.

Obviously the aim is not saving cost. But resale value. Cabal could be sold for profit if he plays well unlike Hermoso.

But they don't realize quality must come first and foremost. Low quality can't be sold no matter how young he is.

In reality it might look like this

8M€ transfer + 2M€ gross = 4M€ annual

We are not giving Kamate as a bonus, but to get the price down imo. Also the wages are reported to be 1M€ net.

Yeah, we just haven't got the exact value for Cabal wage net beside it would insignificant.
Also, yeah, Hermoso's sign on fee and agent fee probably the main issue here and both numbers are usually hidden.
Why didn't we sign him in February? We don't really need a new LCB at that point because Carlos is already doing a good job in that role.
Additionally, Hermoso might only want to keep his options open till the next transfer window.

Yeah, it is true that there are quality disparities and also experiences here, moreover the cost here is just a slight difference.
Furthermore, Hermoso is still capable of giving us plusvalenza even if he plays well.

I'm not totally against Cabal, though, both has pros and cons but both are coming as backup role anyway.
We are still in July and there is time to evaluate the options.

Yeah, that would be the minimum.
I include the higher number including the addons, which would be accounted anyway if its easy to achieve objective bonus.
Kamate would also gave us capital gain and perhaps future resale percentage.

Southampton signed Sugawara for only 7M€

I think Inzaghi could mold him easily to RWB. Japanese, they are real bastards on the pitch, young, resellable if he becomes star etc.

I would really like to see his game vs top EPL sides next season.

Buchanan injury happened a week ago. Why would we sign him in a position we already had cover?

Fitting Carlos Augusto at LCB was a temporary solution, we will have to find a solution eventually. It makes no sense replace a player who will return in October.

The undeniable truth is we keep track of all market opportunities. We simply don't see Hermoso as an opportunity otherwise we would have approached him earlier. We didn't really need Zielinski or Djalo either, but we tried to get both anyway, Djalo went to Juve but you get the point.

Don't have one.
I have a hard time believing a manager as experienced as Marotta accepted the role of president without discussing future strategy with Oaktree.
Why though? Both marotta and ausilio are the corporate men through and through. They v protected zhang even though he should have been kicked out of the club as soon as he asked for the first loan after the pandemic, and they will do the same thing with oaktree. I'm sure once we get cabal ausilio will tell us hermoso was never an option, and we always wanted someone younger for that role.

Nothing bad about that btw, I don't mind competent people protecting their bosses, coz alternative to that is they rebel or leave, and then we will probably be in the situation milan is currently in where you have incompetent people in management protecting incompetent owner fund.

I am referring to the narrative that management want to sign experienced players and they are trying to convince Oaktree who are blocking them so far.

Marotta was talking about young players since June 18 but it went unnoticced.

Marotta said that Oaktree have a policy of “No crazy spending, but yes to getting the best out of young players. That has to be our mantra.”

Marotta and Ausilio will just do what they're asked like they did with Zhang. Oaktree strategy isn't the way Marotta is used to work but since he accepted to stay it means he's willing to adapt.

I doubt Buchanan will return that early, besides it may take more weeks or even months to regain his fitness back.
Transfermarkt expected return date would be on Nov 30, 2024.

Besides perhaps we might even not gonna register him for serie A for this half season, we may reevaluate when registration reopen in winter transfer window.
Obviously he won't registered for UCL list, also since we are adding non homegrown players to replace him, there's slim chance he will be registered in list January either (hopefully we already qualified). So, we will probably gonna loan him out.

Regarding Zielinski, it's an opportunity that we shouldn't miss. We are trying to increase the overall teams quality here.

I thought we were all in agreement that we don't have enough wide players? Especially our right side is weaksauce in attack for a full season of competitive football.
