It also helped he was rested in the last two Serie A games. He should get rested against Sassuolo as well so he can be at his best in second leg.

I’ve watched a lot of Mkhitaryan games over the years, especially when visiting my dad. While he has declined in many respects, I did not expect the defensive talent that he’s shown all season. He’s ability to pickpocket the opposition has been stellar.

Amazing how well he has adapted to his new more defensive position at this age. Does need to be rested more though to be more impactful.

Yeah, I'm big admirer of Mkhitaryan by now. So criticism to him must be put to a right context. I still want to comment on these cases. Just after he was subbed off I remember a play where he tried to get past Giroud or someone right in front of our box where he could have instead just released the pressure by kicking the ball the fuck out. He was lucky there was the ball went to Giroud's hand and we got FK.

But he simply takes these unnecessary risks sometimes he shouldn't be taking. I feel like it's due to his natural role he's been playing most of his career, a very offensive winger/midfielder. It's different thing to try those things in that role compared to do the same as mezzala.

Anyway, as I tried to contextualize this criticism, it's a minor flaw in his game. He's been a tremendous addition to this team. Unbelievable stamina. Incredible stat is that he's missed 4 games this season. FOUR. 2 for injury, one for special leave and only in one match he sat on the bench for the whole match. He's been also starting most of the matches.

He often makes similar mistakes or wastes some easy passes, but his overall movement on/off the ball, his stamina and defensive contribution are on very high level.

Yes, but against Sassuolo he put Asllani as CM, so there is a tiny hope.
