As Puma alluded, the guy has been fucking dogshit for the better part of 2 years. Every time he sets foot on the pitch he looks like a disaster.

..and yet here we are offering him a fucking two year extension. Absolutely mind boggling.

Marotta can go to hell. This usage of our resources is bordering on the criminally negligent.

Probably means we offered too much.
I've read that we offered him significantly lower wage, but maybe he doesn't have better offers till now.

Rumor has it we have offered 3.5m net. A bit lower than his current salary but still way too much based on his performances in the last two seasons.

I feel like the management wants to keep as many same defenders as possible to not to change too much. So when Skriniar leaves Bastoni, De Vrij and Acerbi would stay.

Then we sign that new RCB so they want to keep the stability. Issue is of course if De Vrij won't step up anymore and this current level is where he will be from now on.

This will be definitely an issue in a case we sack Inzaghi and sign a new coach who switches to 4-man defence. This De Vrij is totally useless in 4-man defence.

And the same applies to Acerbi. He's terrible in a back 4.

I was a fan but he's spent and needs a new environment.

Yeah, I think as cafe says there's too much risk in some ways. I don't really want him to stay but the problem is two of three CBs leaving in a window, and let's be honest if bastoni doesn't sign a new contract it will be three of these leaving in a window..

De Vrij (and Acerbi) would work better in defence sitting low, like we did with Conte. Like we would do with Mourinho and such. Allegri as well if he uses 3-man defence.

In any other setup, including Inzaghi, it just doesn't gonna work because they need strong and fast CBs who can keep the line high enough.

It doesn't make sense to extend him before knowing next season's coach. But I reiterate, I also understand the risk having to replace lots of defenders in one summer. Not easy situation.

A stable rot is worse than a drastic overhaul. De Vrij is already 31 years old and has been a trash for 2 years so keeping him is very stupid. Our management keeps hitting a new low by refreshing our crumbling backline and choose to cling on washed up player instead :palm:

Gazzetta says he’s staying for another 2 years, at 4m a year.

Jesus Christ, someone save the sinking ship SS Internazionale. We’ve got a couple of bald men feeding literal faeces into the engine because our owner can’t afford fuel.

4m per season to the guy who's getting benched by grandpa Acerbi. Also if we're moving to a back 4 decision to keep De Vrij becomes even more laughable.

LoL. This is so retarded. We'll give 4 mln to this bench warmer, but offer 4.5 mln for Bastoni, who is better, younger and a starter.

The irony is that if we offered De Vrij 4.5m 1.5 years ago he'd not slowly decompose into fecal status now

We all saw this renewal coming from a mile away and yet it's still somehow astonishing when you really think about it.

Name me a footballer in Europe who has suffered a bigger fall from grace than de Vrij recently? Two years ago he was the centrepiece to a league-winning defensive trio which would've rivalled any backline in Europe.

Since then he's become an absolutely pathetic excuse of a player whose market value has plummeted by literally 70%. In the past 24 months, he's played maybe 5 games which I'd describe as "non-catastrophic".

The remaining 95% of the time he sets foot on the pitch, he's been a disaster waiting to happen. He's slow to react and even slower physically. He's clumsy and insecure. He's frequently caught out of position while ball-watching. Worst of all, he looks utterly emasculated and devoid of confidence. He gets reliably bullied around like a small child - like a boy playing against men. He looks like a broken man. I honestly wonder if he's suffering from some severe depression IRL.

Anyway. What we have is a footballer whose footballing contributions have become a net negative - because he's actively damaging the team with his unreliability with every game he plays - and an asset whose commercial value has completely tanked to the point of worthlessness.

And yet, if we have indeed renewed him for two years at €4m net, that's a total of about €15m we've allocated to this black hole which is giving us zero returns either on the pitch or financially.

I might add that while this hilarious decision is taking place, in the background, we're simultaneously losing the most valuable defender in the league for free.

Renew the most valuable defensive asset in the league? X
Renew the most depreciated, underperforming defensive asset in the league?

I'll finish by answering my own question which I asked above, "Name me a footballer in Europe who has suffered a bigger fall from grace than de Vrij recently?"

The answer is Romelu Lukaku of course. Similarly to de Vrij, his ability on the pitch has seen a shocking decline while his market value has also crashed like a cheap cryptocurrency. Coincidentally, another Inter player  It perfectly encapsulates the state of the club, and most of all, the shocking decision-making and misuse of resources by our management.

The logic to extend de Vrij simply boggles the mind. At this point, I'm significantly more concerned and disillusioned with Marotta than I am Suning, de Vrij, Limone, or any other aspect of this club. The guy is making the worst possible decisions, making the worst possible choices at every possible step. He needs to go. It's ruinous mismanagement. Absolutely seppuku stuff.

Could Conte make this guy good again? I think he's De Vrij's only hope.

Was thinking of making a post here but yeah nothing further to add.
