His G/A contribution has gone through the roof with Inzaghi but maybe he does benefit from being restrained by a system like Conte’s. He just looks lost recently.

For me he lost his steam, losing duel, missing first touch. I think partially because Hakan drops down deeper than usual to fill Brozovic's position. He has to cover more space than usual. I see him popping up in left wing a lot, more than all previous season. He seems fine in beginning but now it's like overloaded.

Yeah fatigue cannot be understimated in a player's dip in form. He's irreplaceable in the team and hardly ever rested because of lack of depth and injuries to the other players. That might have affected his overall performance .

none of our players know if they will actually stay at the club or not, which can affect them

as far as I remember, Barella usually shows up at the end of the season

Man, with all the injuries and just burnt-out tiredness it's amazing Inter is still in 2nd place and advancing in the Champions League. Hate to say this but Inter could use an International break.

How can barella be burnt out? He's been rested more than our other midfielders. I'm fairly certain he has less minutes as he is subbed out more often than the others. And he had a month off before Christmas with no world cup.

Every time barella is shit everyone on here is saying he's tired. No other player gets the same leeway or excuses made for them.

WC was more like 3 months ago? even you have more rest doesn't mean he can run full steam all time til the end of season.

I mean he is not up to the workload he's currently having, even in a match. You can see he fade away in late stage.

It's not excuse, he should be better in that regard, it holds him back.

He's been absolute shite since the world cup though, so rest wasn't the issue. He's just horribly horribly out of form. (and over rated)

Juve this weekend, have to watch rabiot destroy him again.

People were attacking me when I dared to criticize him. Now when everyone want his head not gonna do that, just hoping he can regain his best form and perform like he used to,that is Barella we all want but to be consistent, which he lacks like most of our players. Maybe it has to do to friggin Limone or maybe whole situation in the club is so shit that hurt players mentality I dont really know. Just look at Brozo,he was irreplaceable and our best midfielder in scudetto winning team, now he is benched for Mkhi and he's a shell of himself. Majority of our "core" players are in terrible shape. Our best players are the ones that came here to be bench options cause of their age/quality. Look at them, they are all doing great( Acerbi,Darmian,DiMarco..). This fucking club lol

I cannot find any distance covered stats, but among all the 3 midfielders or even the entire team, Barella seems to be covering the most grounds per minute and doing the most sprinting, and accuracy tends to drop when you are low on energy, hence sometimes the conversion rate has to do more than just the player (Inzaghi haters you are welcome) , but he is still responsible for his subpar performance, and should be the main factor, as I think it is more of a mental thing, like for example his pass that lead to Darmian's booking yesterday, it was due to lack of focus and thoughts rather than fatigued.

I still like him though, and I don't think he is overrated, just Inter/Sunning financial shit is getting into people's mind.

Keep in mind he covers a lot both offensively and defensively for Dumfries. He pops up doing the runs Dumfries should do sometimes. The times we switch play from LCB/LCM/LWB to RWB most of the time it's Barella in the zone Dumfries should be in. Probably because of how poor Dumfries end product and 1v1 is. So I cut him some slack tbh.

He usually plays way better when Darmian is on his side.

I have defended him but it was pretty evident that he was shit yesterday. Hope he can bounce back because he’s our only creative player.

He was very bad in first leg as well. His cross to Lukaku that brought the goal (typically not an assist) wasn't enough to deem his performance anything but poor. He's just in a period of bad form. And the problem is i don't think benching him would make a difference. He was benched against Bologna and midfield looked terrible. There's no one in the squad who can bring his energy and intensity.

Barella may do lots of running but he isn’t strong enough to make the tackles or go shoulder to shoulder. So he is just hovering around his marker.

When he goes forward his la k physicality is also a problem. He should never consider going to EPL due to this.

Verratti for example is probably smaller but he is capable of keeping possession unlike Barella

Well actually, he is pretty good at tackling but his physical game is VERY poor. I don't even remember last time him winning a physical duel or getting to hold the ball like a proper midfielder does. Like I said, the guy is very intelligent and has amazing footballing abilities but such a shame that he lets himself down by not trying to improve on physicality.

Great example with Verratti @Jusef. There's a bunch of players whom were rather small in body construction but they had great strength and they knew how to hold the ball or win physical duels.

Then again, Nicolo isn't even brave enough. He strikes me as a kind of coward at times, running away from responsibility and whatnot. I have even mentioned it earlier, he has an issue with his character rather than anything else.

With Brozovic hounding and covering he was not so exposed and he didnt need to track back and cover so much ground. He is playing alongside Calha and Mikhtaryan and while Calha transitioned into a sort of deep lying playmaker that actually defends quite well, Mikhtaryan is nowhere near Brozovic in terms of physicality and workrate. Feels like he is running out of steam and does not get to recover between games.

Nah. He's doesnt have the high level vision and passing of modric, Iniesta, kroos, jorginho, the spatial awareness of verratti, game reading ability of Kante to intercept passes. Granted he's no Guarin/Muntari, but "very" intelligent ?

We keep on overhyping our players, Icardi, Lukaku, Lautoro, Skrinair, now Barella, and time and time again they get brutally exposed on the biggest stage/highest level.

Would probably help if he wouldn't give the balll away so carelessly. Last season it was Toro is tiring himself pressing on behalf of Kaku, then dzeko. Now Barella has to cover for Mhiki who plays on the opposite flank? Come on man.

Sure he's had a bit of a dip in form but you guys are being extremely harsh and unfair

He's a world class midfielder who shines in the correct setup

The team as a whole has been lackluster and it's hard for him to look good with the way we've been playing
