I'm not really excited about Becao but I honestly believe Smalling would be a success. Roma's defense falls apart when he's not part of it and they seem really solid with him. He can score a few goals as well.
I think Smalling would be fine as a De Vrij replacement. The problem is that we’ll end up renewing De Vrij and he’ll be Skriniar’s replacement.

We have Acerbi who's 35, de Vrij who's 31 DD33 who's 35. We need youth

Youth needs money and we don't have any.

even the big boss is getting busy with lawsuit case. Imo i don't think he has a time to discuss new youth guys at the club.

The way I see it: Bastoni & Acerbi are best used as LCBs, De Vrij & Smalling are best used as central CBs, and Darmian is best used at RCB. We'd still need to sign someone who's athletic and good on the ball for that RCB spot (Pavard would be the dream) but it doesn't make Smalling obsolete. We need 5-6 capable CBs in the squad in order to play with three at the back.

Sadly, we don't have such money. We'll have to make do for now, and we can't do much better than Smalling on a free.

Thoughts on this guy? 21 and starts in PL and went to world cup with Germany. Southampton might get relegated so he might be available for a decent price. PL clubs will probably be interested though

Last year when he left Bochum it was the perfect time to get him for a decent amount. As always: We were too late, we don't have money and we will buy grandpas to make it up for the missed opportunities.

So welcome Smalling

This is my hopium speaking but this is my plan as to how we get Scalvini:

Skriniar new contract offer was 12.04x4=48.16 gross.

We loan Reguilon from Spurs for 2 million gross wages per year

Gosens goes to Atalanta as part of the deal so 13.89 million from his wages are free

We offer Scalvini 2.5 net for 5 years which gross is 4.63x5=23.15

That leaves around 37 million to spend on Scalvini which is no gurantee that Atalanta would accept and on top of that we would play in 4 installments. Will is happen? Probably not but a man can dream

We won't get him. There will be a line of clubs loaded with cash ready to outbid us easily.

We need to accept the reality and be thankful of Becao at this point.

Latest name thrown out

INTER KEEPING TABS ON FULHAM DEFENDER TOSIN ADARABIOYO

Inter are preparing for the post-Milan Skriniar era and have added Fulham centre back Tosin Adarabioyo to their list of possible replacements, reports detail.
The Slovakian centre back is entering his final months as a Nerazzurri player, ready to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer in order to pen a lucrative contract with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain. Inter are now drawing up a list of players who could adequately replace Skriniar and a fresh target has emerged.

As reported by TMW, Inter have started closely following Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo, who only has 18 months left on his contract with the Premier League side.

A Manchester City youth product, the English centre back joined Fulham in October 2020 and was voted the club’s best player for their successful Premier League promotion bid last season.

Tosin Adarabioyo has continued impressing in the topflight and has attracted the attention of a number of clubs, including Monaco, Olympique Marseille, Juventus and Napoli.
I know it`s going to be Smalling and Becão, just sharing latest rumours.

I am not so pessimistic.
We have our strenghts here. Play in the same league, close to home, we have a "free spot" for him in a team who plays with 3 CB as his actual team. It will be the best environment for him to make the next step. Inter could be the best opportunity for Sclavini to grow as a player.

I see parallels with Bernadeschi a few years ago. We wanted him, Spaletti had no player for his position in our team. He could have been here an automatic starter and develop further. But the idiot went to Juventus and he warmed the bench behind Ronaldo and Dybala. And he never became the player he could have been,
Hopefully the story will not repeat with Scalvini and other team.

Isn't he left footed? Would be weird to field him and Bastoni as the wide center backs.

I don't think it's a huge issue if he's otherwise decent. Plenty of teams play inverted wingers who like to cut in a lot and having a opposite-footed player on that flank is a (soft) natural counter to that.

Becao would be great tbh. He's a solid, Serie A defender, still only 27 and would not be particularly expensive.

As I mentioned in the horrendous FIF whatsapp chat, I would infinitely prefer to take whatever money we're planning to waste on de Vrij and Smalling and spend it on Becao instead.

Just on this topic, I frequently criticise the management for targeting 34 year old, free agent trash like Mkhitaryan and Smalling. I genuinely believe it to be a fair criticism because I believe there's a better path. The counter argument I often hear is that we don't have money for top players and top prospects, as if there isn't bargains and plenty of opportunities elsewhere.

People act like there's nothing in between the Smalling's and Scalvini's. Becao is a perfect "in-between" given our financial status, and there are plenty like him. Don't ask me who they are - I can name a handful but I'm not the dickhead being paid hundreds of thousands of euros to scout them as a full time job.

Becao is valid target for Napoli and Atalanta too, so it won't be so easy to acquire him, but also means that he is okish player. Napoli are very good in finding of decent and not expensive players. We shall try to find and then snatch out their targets, as obviously our scouting is utter shit.

N’dicka would be good option if we are selling Bastoni.

I love Bastoni, but he has been inconsistent and I don’t mind us to sell him if we get decent players in like (free) N’dicka, one low cost player like Becao and one Pavard/Scalvini for 30-40m.

N’dicka-Becao-Pavard/Scalvini would be decent bacline.

Some people forget that Bastoni is still 23 years old, and it is quite normal to be inconsistent, especially for CB. As long as Skriniar is replaceable, because he is mostly physical player, it's much more difficult to find CB like Bastoni with similar long passing and vision. He should be untouchable in this squad.
