"Ivan Perisic discussed a moment he shared with former Inter teammate Romelu Lukaku after Belgium’s World Cup exit following their draw with Croatia.

The 29-year-old Nerazzurri striker came into the World Cup in Qatar managing a hamstring injury and he failed to reach full fitness in time for the Red Devils, being visibly below his usual level in their final group game against Croatia. Perisic and his national team have now qualified for the knock-out stages of the competition and will face Japan on December 5 in the Round of 16.

Speaking to FIFA+, Perisic discussed a moment he shared with Lukaku after the full time whistle of Belgium’s draw with Croatia.

“I was with him for two or three minutes after the game. This is football, once you score, another time you miss. He’s a really strong player. Now I hope he can win as many trophies as possible with the Inter shirt.

“For us the most important thing was to pass the group. We played a good game, as did they. But I think, considering the three games, we deserved to go ahead in this World Cup.”

The group stage exit is incredibly painful for Lukaku and Belgium, who’ll now be forced to watch their colleagues fight for the world title from the sidelines.

The Inter striker made a number of high profile misses in the draw with Croatia and he’ll have to dig deep to bounce back in the second half of the season with the Nerazzurri. "

Good guy Inter always has to honour gentlemen agreements but when it comes to other teams honouring those agreements they have no issue screwing us over.

Anyone involved in this travesty should get fired. Of course this also involves Steven but you can't fire the owner.

Like what are you talking about when it comes to gentelmen agreement and lukaku?

Since FIFA banned loan deals for longer than a season i believe Inter and Chelsea had an gentlemen agreement for a two-year loan deal for Lukaku. They just couldn't make it formal because of regulations. I am struggling to believe any sane person would be willing to extend Lukaku loan at this stage of the season when he has barely played. Purely a speculation from my side but that's what i believe.

romelukaku didn't have a bad game yesterday, his first match after a long injury, hardly match fit or in any good form, still had a handful of good chances that Belgium definitely wasn't able to create before he was brought onto the pitch.

Easy to imagine the frustration afterwards, knowing that he could have single handedly saved Belgium quite comfortably, if only he'd been back in form in time. And it was close

I imagine his importance in rebuilding a Belgian NT under a new coach will only be matched by KDB. All of the other old dead wood has to go, as well as both Hazard brothers - of which Eden should just retire to enjoy the kind of luxurious lifestyle he truly desires, and Thorgan is simply not skilled enough

The Phenomenon
His clean chance is the shot that hit the post, but it was taken with his right foot, the rest is all surprise ball, can't really blame him. But, but, i don't see it happen cz he lack of match sharpness, it's just he has a poor anticipation, slow decision making, and poor first touch. Not only vs Croatia yesterday, we already seen him like that at Inter, nothing new.

Rakitic gleefully ‘thanked’ Lukaku on social media for helping Croatia go through:

This is also what I believe. The over-inflated Casadei transfer fee was meant to cover for the 2 loans.
Schira and Romano already wrote that Chelsea stroke a deal for Christopher Nkunku for around 70M Euro.

Lukaku is far from finished, he should be good enough for Serie A (unless you guys want Zapata). Currently he is out of form but hopefully this cold shower woke him up and will determine him to watch out what he puts into him in the upcoming period, leading to better performances.

We should hope that he contributes until the end of the season, then just cut ties and invest somewhere else.
I don't believe one single second in a bright future for Lukaku at Inter without Pintus to keep him fit.

We can't keep going around taking loans with option to buy, struggling to renew our key players, losing some of them for 0€ and at the same time spending this crazy amount on a player that can't stay fit despite himself knowing that his physique is the only special thing about him. A player that's going to be 30 by the end of the season.

That's even ignoring the way the team has to be shaped for him to perform.

Agreement has been made already.

According to Di Marzio, there is still little doubt that the striker will remain at Inter next summer as well, and possibly beyond that on a permanent basis.
The one possible effect of Lukaku’s injury problems on negotiations, according to Di Marzio, is that Inter could look for a discount on another paid loan deal.
“Romelu Lukaku will remain at Inter on loan, with the same structure as the deal made last summer,” he reported.

Di Marzio continued that “I think the Nerazzurri will try and leverage the injury struggles of the last year in talks with Chelsea, to try and lower the terms on an extension.”
“If they’re successful, then we’ll talk about the possibility of redeeming his loan in the summer of 2024.”
Unpopular opinion but loaning him for another year on a lower deal would be the optimal solution for the club, however buying him back is a different story.
