Depends who we can get. I think we've moved on from conte and 3-5-2 hopefully. We can't afford his wages.

However, if the alternative is motta I think we might be better sticking. I think there's too much risk with motta. It'd be like hiring sottil earlier in the season when Udinese were flying then went something like 3 months without a win.

I disagree with Motta-Sottil comparison. Motta was first hired by Spezia in 2021/22 where he did a decent job and saved them comfortably. Then he replaced Sinisa at Bologna who had mostly been a side to fight to avoid relegation. Motta has made a steady progress there, turning Bologna into a top half table team. He had a rough start with 3 losses (Empoli, Juventus, Napoli) and 1 draw (Sampdoria) in the first 4 matches but then he had 9 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses in the next 17 league games. In the same period Limone has 10 wins, 2 draws and 5 losses. :D

On the other hand, Sottil has mostly worked in Serie B and this is his first season in Serie A. He had an excellent start in the season (6 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss) but Udinese have won just 3 games since beating Verona in October 3rd. In fact his win against Milan few days ago was his first home win since beating Inter in September! Two different situations.

As for Conte, even if we put finances aside we would need big changes in the squad to accommodate Conte ball. And i am not even referring to defence where we would need to make at least 2 signings no matter who we hire. Our current midfield is actually far from Conte demands. Mkhi would be of no use to Conte, i have my doubts if he would be happy with regista Chala, he would certainly demand a Kessie type of player for LCM, he would probably prefer Dimarco as lcb and he would ask for a new rwb over Dumfries. So we're basically talking about a squad overhaul. Not worth it.

Didn't motta get sacked from Spezia? Only comparison I'm making with them is off the back of two months good form he could be hired, there were people saying we should hire sottil after two months of good form.

I never watch bologna outside of our games with them so no idea how they play or what they are like, so I'm not really in a position to comment on motta at all. Know very little about his teams other than his initial wacky tactic idea.

He left Spezia by mutual conscent. He had issues with their board while he was hoping for PSG job.

Motta's style at Bologna is mostly an attacking 4-2-3-1 with high pressure, high defensive line and building from the back. I have my doubts if this is the way to move forward after the defensive disaster under Inzaghi.

We would need major changes in basically the entire backline. Bastoni might suit an LB role. We also need wingers. It's gonna be tough.

I don't know why people are worried about Bastoni when he has played in a back 4 for Italy.

Tbf it's also an Italy team that didn't make the world cup

Somewhat joking aside, my question is if we can get the best out of him. I know he's not been on peak this season but a proper CB role without as much defensive cover could mean we lose some of his best attacking attributes and that would suck

My personal feeling is lb would suit him even more than lcb. I agree about cb role. He would be kinda wasted there as he couldn't make his forward runs anymore.

Lucio was always famous for the way he could carry the ball out of the backline in a back 4 so I guess no reason bastoni can't do the same.

Yeah. At the same time I feel like you may risk some of his defensive attributes. I dunno. Need to try to see i guess

No to Conte, cost would be high and the squad needs a major re-think with lots of new players. Conte's wants would break the bank, have no idea on the level of trust between him in the current mgmt either. If new owners come in, I can see them hesitant on hiring him too, given his outrages to the press for all to see and hear. Spurs deserve him if not, maybe Crystal Palace

Motta left due to some disagreement with their management. It was something about transfers iirc. He was fired from Genoa, where he tried to play some nice possession football. I think he started similar way at Spezia, but then he changed to much more conservative style, similar to Allegri. I didn't watch Bologna this season, but I'm not surprised with their results. Honestly I prefer Motta over Conte, as the latter is too crazy and can rage and quit in the middle of the season. Despite that I believe, Conte could assemble solid top 4 squad even with limited funds.

When it comes to a potential Conte return we should also remember he doesn't apply to Growth Decree anymore. We wouldn't save anything.

Calcio e Finanze had an article explaining he would be applicable to Growth Decree if he moves back to Italy after June 30 (from what I understood of it).

yeah, this. Its really confusing, but there was something (in the same way as Lukaku I think?) about it - Italian tax year runs calendar year, so after June 30th you are not a resident for tax year purposes for the full year - so if he moves back before June 30th he can still count this year as an Italian tax resident, which somehow means he's not been away for too long to be ineligible for the first growth decree, or something like that? I did fully understand it at one point, but have now forgotten.

Ok. Based on Lukaku situation last summer i thought he couldn't have spent more than one fiscal year in the country in order to still be eligible. But these guys are usually credible with financial stuff so they're probably right.
