Of course if none of the clubs will be paying for rent, there will be little sense for the municipality to keep running the stadium (in loss).

Time will tell if this is real or just a bluff. Lots of time.

Confirmation has arrived from AC Milan that they would consider the Hippodrome of San Siro area to be a legitimate option for the new stadium to be built with Inter.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Rossoneri have confirmed that they are assessing the possibility of building in the Hippodrome area so that the stadium can be constructed in Milan without tearing down the San Siro.

Reports yesterday suggested that the Hippodrome area is being studied by Inter and Milan as a possible alternative location to where the Giuseppe Meazza currently stands for a new stadium.

Given that the opposition to demolishing the Meazza has been one of the biggest obstacles to getting approval on starting construction, the possibility of a location adjacent to the stadium would be attractive insofar as it could allow the Meazza to remain standing and the clubs to still stay within the city.

According to the Corriere della Sera, Milan have confirmed that they consider the possibility on the table, and are assessing whether it would be viable.

What the hell are they afraid of. That if we tear down Meazza and build it few years they don't get the rent money from us and Milan since we have to move out the city to play our games. Its fucking stupid to build new one next to Meazza and then keep the Meazza. This is why this league will be on the level of Belgium league in 15 years.

This thing will never be built.

Might as well join Milan in the 'Plan B', appears the other options are weird or not feasible. If some mad multi-billionaire from the US comes in they'll threaten to move out Milan proper if they don't get what they want and slap the local populace with most of the bill. Pretty common practice here in US. Beware.

You know it doesn't work like that in Europe, specially in Italy. They can't just move a team out of a city, maybe some suburbs close by but in Europe, the clubs are actually attached to their cities. This is not some franchise BS like it's in the US.

Didn't know that, yet another reason to admire Europe and another to avoid US monies I dare say.

Sala actually just commented on the fact that if you move to outside Milano municipality, there will be infra issues. Like one simple example: policemen. Municipality provides 60-70 policemen for every match, they have 3k of them. That can't be done in a municipality with 10 policemen on duty.

Those were Sala's words and of course there are probably some exaggeration but the point is there. If we move outside of the Milano municipality, getting these kind of "infra" stuff settled won't be easy. You could guess it would cost a fortune for the clubs to borrow policemen from Milano for this purpose.

Ordinaraily, a new stadium would be a great addition to any city in the world and the clubs that represent the city. However, when it comes to Inter, Milan and the city of Milan it feels like the beureaucracy is attempting to strangle the attempts by the the clubs to embrace something new and in so doing, move away from the old (the Meazza). Having a new stadium in San Siro would truly be an asset for the city, but for some reason, insurmountable hurdles have been built to ensure the new stadium never gets built.

I can not think of any other proposed stadium deal that has been tied up with so much red tape for so long. And there is still no end in sight. And this is one of many reasons why Serie A is so unappealing to potential owners and why the television contracts are so poor. Who wants to watch a match with a shit running track around the pitch? Or go to games in Naples where the stadium is falling apart.

It should not come as a surprise that Serie A is struggling to match Germany, Spain, and England.

According to the pink paper, the Rossoneri have decided to abandon their city rivals in their project for a new stadium which they will build alone in one of the three areas they have already identified
New Milan owner Gerry Cardinale is ready to invest in a new arena and is unwilling to wait for Inter. The Nerazzurri are facing an uncertain future with a €292m loan from Oaktree Capital Management and a 12% annual interest to pay off in 2024.

As explained by Gazzetta, if Suning fails to pay the debt, Oaktree will get a majority stake in the club. The pink paper describes Inter’s future as ‘uncertain.’

On the other hand, Milan have new, solid ownership and the resources to proceed with the project.

There is another reason why Milan will drop Inter and the San Siro area. ‘The Cathedral’ project, approved by both clubs in 2021, is struggling to take shape after new requests made by the city council to both clubs.

They have demanded a 70,000-seat stadium rather than 60,000 and €40m to redevelop the San Siro neighbourhood, including a green area covering 50% of the zone.
They are playing poker now

I would love the idea for us staying at Meazza if we could renovate it with 100-250m and get cheap lease like West Ham got for their stadium?

People go see Colosseum and many other historic sites just cause of the history it carries and for the desing. Imagine in 2060 we would still play games where all the past legends have played with tons of history and memories.

Like in US Boston Red Sox still plays in Fenway park and they sell match tickets and tours tickets like hot cakes.

I posted this link earlier for two different desings for possible renovations for the Meazza stadium and both of them have decent corporate spaces and seats to increse revenues.
