While I love seeing the confidence about Real here, please don't forget that their midfield trio of Casemiro - Kroos - Modric still shits all over our own midfield, especially when you throw in Valverde. Any points against them will be bonus, and should definitely not be necessary.

Also, you know, they might have an Mbappe by the time we play them.
Obviously. Thing is they're leaking goals left and right. If Levante (And previously Shakthar) can get 3 past them, then at the very least we can give them a hard time.

Our midfield isn't bad either, but that's another matter. As for Mbappe we'll see how he settles. Will take time. This ain't fifa.

I post this every year: the magic number is ten points.

Sheriff - 6 points
Shakhtar - 3 points
Madrid - 1 point

This will probably get the job done. Maybe we won't bottle it, for once.
Generous of you giving us 6 points against Sheriff

The goal should be 13pts. Twelve from Sheriff and Shakhtar, and a tie at home vs. Real Madrid.

It is interesting how once our opponents are drawn and known the calculations inevitably start. The way I look at it, nothing is guaranteed and we should take nothing for granted, regardless of the fact that we are Italian Champions and we are playing the likes of Sheriff and Shakhtar.

More often than not, the battle against these teams is not the battle that takes place on the pitch but rather the battle that takes place in the minds of our players. The strength of teams like Sheriff comes from being an underdog, underestimated and written off as not having a chance. And that's just the point, they play for something different. Teams like Sheriff know they are not going to qualify to the next round, however, they are playing to upset their more established opponents by getting a point in Madrid or an unexpected win at the Meazza.

Essentially, we underestimate Sheriff and Shakhtar at our own peril. And that is not even taking into consideration our own shortcomings and randomness as a team in the sense of underperforming when we should do well and doing well when it should be difficult. Also, the fact that we might be playing on a potato patch and in an environment that is totally different to what we are used to may also be a consideration.

I just think we need to take it game by game, see how things work out and not get ahead of ourselves.

Shakhtar head coach Roberto De Zerby shared his thoughts with the club press office on the Champions League group stage draw. - Is there any kind of deja vu compared to last season, since Inter and Real were again caught? - “Inter” and “Real” have changed coaches, but maybe even improved the level. There is also “Sheriff” in the group - I don't know this team very well, but they played excellently with “Dynamo” (Zagreb). After the Champions League draw it is always difficult to tell how easy or difficult a group is. In the Champions League, you can get to Liverpool, Manchester, PSG ... Let's just play and see. - You have met with Inter many times and you probably know well how to resist it. - A strong team with strong footballers. They changed their coach. Tactically, one might say, he plays almost the same as the previous mentor. Inter lost Lukaku and Hakimi, but signed Dzeko, Chalhanoglu, Correa, so I think they have a very strong team. - At press conferences in meetings with “Monaco” you have repeatedly mentioned “Real”. Is this team a model for you? - When I was young, everyone in Italy, of course, looked at Real Madrid as a great club, a great team, where strong players have always played. Maybe because of this, I talked about Real Madrid at press conferences. In fact, in recent years Barcelona have become better than Real Madrid in Spain. But we can still believe that Real Madrid is one of the best, strongest teams in Europe. They play very well, they have strong players. We will play, we will see how it will be on the field, we will see our level. - “Sheriff” surprised everyone by getting into the group round of the Champions League for the first time. Is this the dark horse of our group? - Absolutely not. We respect Sheriff very much - they won 3: 0 against Dynamo Zagreb. We respect all teams that play in the Champions League. In fact, we saw last season that Inter, when the group stage started, may have come up with different expectations, but ended up finishing in fourth place. In the Champions League, you must always respect everyone and think about every match.

When is the schedule out? Usually it was a few hours later.

I want Sheriff away first, then Real Madrid at home. Which hopefully will mean that we'll be through by the Bernabeu game.

We need to secure qualification before the last match of group stage. I have no faith in the team getting a result in Madrid, even if Real have nothing to play for.

Real look pretty weak without Varane - hopefully we can go attack them at home and get the DDs (obviously I mean Dambro-Darmian) offering some real threat on the wings. We'll need every ounce of class at CB esp if they have Mbappe, but even 1 point would be decent (not in terms of pride/etc, but in terms of our 10 point forecast).
